What customer says about Western Digital My Book Essential 3 TB:
"VERY NICE !!!" By buffalo (
)I bought two of these 2TB drives to store some important stuff I have. I have a USB 3.0 capable motherboard so I wanted to take advantage of the increased speeds these drives can offer over the standard 2.0 drives. I think I fell victim to some marketing slight of hand when USB 3.0 was first introduced. Ultra blazing fast speeds were promised but what I did not realize is that although the drive itself is fast, your speeds are really determined on what kind of drive your writing from or to. This is what I did not educate myself about properly. I have a internal 2 TB 7200RPM standard drive and these externals and my transfer speeds are very very nice when compared to USB 2.0... no doubt about it. I think the transfer and copy speeds would reach the potential of this technology if you were using one of these and a SSD drive. Then I think you would see some crazy speeds. Overall I am super pleased with the speeds I get which average around 80 megabytes up to around 120 megabytes.See original review here
"USB 3.0 speed is great" By S. Davey (
)I bought this because of the USB 3.0 speed, to back up my music workstation. I have about 1.5 TB of active data, and I need to back this up in much less time than would be possible with USB 2.0. I'm using a new computer that comes with USB 3.0 ports, and it works great. Very speedy.See original review here
Some reviewers have commented on the proprietary software. You don't have to use this, and I don't. I just plug it in without doing any software installation, and it appears in Windows as an ordinary hard drive.
